Vickery Meadows Neighborhood
Vickery Meadows, which is now known as Vickery Midtown, is one of the many neighborhoods in Dallas, TX. This is an area that is sometimes referred to as a "little United Nations," since it is so ethnically diverse. For many years, many immigrants that have come to Dallas settled in this particular neighborhood.
One thing that makes this neighborhood different from many is the fact that most of the people in the neighborhood are renters. Also, there are a large number of apartment complexes there, as opposed to having single or multi-family homes lining the streets. While this is typically considered a low-income neighborhood, it is one that has seen lots of development in recent years, so the demographics have shifted slightly.
There are several schools in the area; this changed significantly in the latter part of the 1980s. After the Fair Housing Act was enacted, the population of the neighborhood grew and the schools that were there at the time started to become very crowded. To make room for the new schools that were erected, it was necessary to tear down some of the houses complexes.
There is a large hospital located in Vickery Midtown, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, and more than 1200 physicians are on the staff. As a result, this is where most of the residents in the area head if they are experiencing some type of medical emergency. While it is possible to receive general health care there as well, many people opt for smaller clinics, like the Vickery Women's Health Center, when it comes to non-emergency care.
As time progresses, there is a chance that the changes being made to the neighborhood will make the demographics shift even more. Hopefully, the neighborhood will be able to maintain its reputation for being a place that people from all backgrounds can call home.
